Independent Authors

Discover Stories from Voices That Deserve to Be Heard

Every book on our shelves tells a story, but the stories behind independent authors are just as compelling. These writers pour their hearts into their work, often without the backing of major publishers, yet their creativity, passion, and unique perspectives enrich our literary landscape in extraordinary ways.

At Breezy Bookshop, we're proud to champion independent authors and bring their work directly to readers across Southwest Florida. When you choose an indie book from our mobile bookstore, you're not just purchasing a story; you're supporting a writer's dream and helping rescue animals find their forever homes.

Why We Love Indie Authors

Independent authors bring fresh voices, bold ideas, and diverse perspectives to literature. They write stories that might never make it through traditional publishing gatekeepers, tackling subjects and styles that reflect the true breadth of human experience. From gripping mysteries to heartfelt memoirs, science fiction adventures to poetry collections, our indie author selection celebrates creativity in all its forms.

How Your Purchase Makes a Difference

When you buy from an independent author through our bookstore, 60% of the sale goes directly to the writer, giving them significantly more support than major retail platforms. The remainder helps us continue our mission of bringing literature to communities while donating proceeds to local animal rescues. Every purchase is a vote for literary diversity and animal welfare.

sara ennis, author, sara isabelle, author

As Sara Ennis, I write dark, psychological thrillers where obsession runs deep, survival isn’t guaranteed, and humanity teeters on the edge. The stories can be brutal, unsettling—but there’s always, always hope in the end. The spark usually comes from real-life cases that make me stop and say, What!?! And while no one is ever truly safe in my books, one rule stands: the dog never dies.

As Sara Isabelle, I flip the switch, crafting cozy mysteries filled with humor, found family, and small-town charm that makes people say, I want to live there. There’s still crime (because what’s a mystery without a little murder?), but it comes with a side of warmth, wit, and at least one adorable pet.

When I’m not writing, I’m traveling, taste-testing tequila, and indulging my fascination with the weirdness of the human brain. And when Charlie, my blind Aussie/Husky mix, demands Ball!, everything else goes on hold—because some stories can wait, but fetch is forever.

sara ennis, author, sara isabelle, author

Sue Mills believes in grabbing everything life offers—and in writing stories that do the same. Her character-driven fiction sits at the intersection of romance and women’s fiction, where love stories unfold alongside the complexities of friendship, family, and the business of being human.

A northern Vermont native with an English degree and a lifetime of stories tucked away, she started writing in 2020 when the pandemic opened up time while shutting down everything else.

Mountains feed her soul—whether the Green Mountains of home or the Rockies of Colorado. She’s closing in on her goal of visiting all 50 states, traveling with the boy she met in a college library half a century ago, which feels like its own kind of perfect beginning.

E.A. Fortneaux author

E.A. Fortneaux. I decided to lean into being me a few years ago, and that meant fulfilling the dream of a teenage EAF. I absolutely loved medieval and renaissance history growing up, and like many folks was drawn to fantasy volumes. I never thought I could write a novel and then it occurred to me that...with that attitude, I couldn't. So, I set a goal, placed a bet on me, and here we are, a lifelong dream achieved.

In my free time, I am a hobby gardener, 14th Century reenactor, and a person who loves to transport others to places where they can lose themselves for a little while.

Though my style or genre may not be for everyone, I thank you for stopping by and taking an interest in my writings.

eric maldonado

Eric Maldonado was middle-class kid from New Jersey whose family came over from Puerto Rico just so he could be born in the boogie-down Bronx. As a lifetime reader of thousands of books, from Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Dan Abnett, Jim Butcher, Robert McCammon, and Richard Kadrey. He always wanted to be able to write about what he loved, fantasy and comics.  He wants to have people feel the thrill of immersing themselves into a story and running the gamut of emotions along with the characters. This love of storytelling is the driving force behind his work and looks forward to giving the world a little bit of his unconventional storytelling style.
